Bubba’s Brian Cooke shares his experiences cycling with Graham Walters
This is Graham Walters
In August of 2016, not long before he was to fly out to ride the Haute Route, he was struck from behind by a driver who was using their mobile phone at the time. The accident has robbed Graham of the use of his legs.
Today in Tally Valley Graham rode for the first time on public roads. He covered 15km and it was an honour to share it with him. Graham had only made it to this day through sheer grit, determination and the tireless support of his wonderful wife, Belinda.
Graham and his friend Klaus are now the driving force behind a Change.org petition to pressure tech giants to implement technology that will make it harder to use a mobile device whilst driving. Please support this cause.
I am also shouting out to my friends and colleagues to assist me in upgrading Grahams bike to electronic gears. At the moment he must remove his left hand from the crank arm to shift the front gears. This makes climbing an even more difficult proposition. It would take a few dollars and some creative installation, but I know it can be done. Please let me know if you can help.
Thanks Graham for my dose of reality and perspective. It was a brilliant morning.
How good is our Gold Coast Cycling community
and it all starts with Graham pulling himself up onto the saddle again, it takes something more than just courage, Graham has an X factor gene tucked away inside him somewhere
